What MagicInput collects

Nothing. MagicInput has no account, no sign-in, no analytics and no telemetry. Apart from renewing a license key (below), it sends no data to Bullfighter Studio or anyone else.

What stays on your computers

Your settings (such as the pairing code, the screen arrangement and the computer names) are stored in a file on each of your computers. A log of what the app did, without the keys you type, is kept next to it for troubleshooting. You can delete both at any time.

What travels between your computers

While you use one computer to control the other, MagicInput sends your keyboard, mouse and scroll input, and copied text if clipboard sharing is on, directly to your other computer on your local network. Every connection is end-to-end encrypted with a key derived from your pairing code, and connections from outside your local network are refused. Nothing goes through the internet or any server.

Finding your other computer

MagicInput announces itself on your local network (Bonjour/mDNS) with the computer name and a value derived from the pairing code (not the code itself), so your other computer can find it.

Permissions

On a Mac, MagicInput asks for Accessibility and Input Monitoring, and on Windows it uses keyboard and mouse hooks. These are needed to see and send input; MagicInput only uses them to share input with your paired computer.

Your license key

If you enter a Premium license key, it’s stored with your settings and checked on your computer. For a monthly or yearly plan, MagicInput asks bullfighterstudio.com for a fresh key about once a day, so it keeps working after each renewal. That request sends only the purchase reference inside your key. This is the only time MagicInput contacts a server.

Purchases

If you buy a plan on bullfighterstudio.com, Stripe processes the payment and receives the details you enter at checkout; see Stripe’s privacy policy. In the Microsoft Store, Microsoft processes the purchase. We only see what Stripe or Microsoft report about your purchase, such as your email address and the plan you bought.

Open source

MagicInput’s source code is public under the GPL-3.0, so you or anyone else can check exactly what it does.
